If you’re viewing this from Canada then you are probably already familiar with Nardwuar. If not, he is a television and radio personality known for his sometimes awkward interviews and extremely unique personality. Drake was recently in Vancouver to perform and sat down with Nardwuar in the studio for this extremely entertaining interview. I have had the chance to meet Nardwuar several times and all I can say is that there is NOBODY like him. Watch this.

“This is the best interview I’ve ever done in my entire life.” -Drake

Calvin Ayre.

My longtime friend Sharad Khare recently interviewed (my uncle) Calvin Ayre, the founder of Bodog, while he was briefly in Vancouver. You may remember way back when I posted these photos from a party I hosted at his Yaletown penthouse last summer. Well… on top of an awesome interview, this video also has a mini tour of the place. Take a look and take a listen.

Allow me to say it one final time – familiarize yourself with Yelawolf right fucking now, because you will miss the bandwagon if you don’t. Every other rapper has put their own words over Gucci Mane’s Lemonade beat, and now the white dude from Alabama does too. Click HERE to listen.

Yelawolf.

He just played a show in Vancouver – if you attended, how was it? Also… rumor has it that he will be opening for Wiz Khalifa in Montreal this September. I will share more details as I get them!

The video was shot by Jae Yu for the Metro newspaper contest. Shout out to one of my personal favorite blogs – VanCity Buzz for the find.

My favorite sport team, the Vancouver Canucks are currently doing well in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We are up 1-0 in a second round series with the Chicago Blackhawks. During home games at GM Place in Vancouver these two men dressed in green spandex suits taunt the visiting players while they sit in the penalty box. This shit is hilarious.

Happy 420 to all of the weed smokers reading my blog – which I think is a lot of you, because most of this shit is only funny while high. I spent the last two years at the Vancouver Art Gallery celebrating today with 10,000 other people – check out this event! I’m not sure if Montreal has anything similar – I was busy today unfortunately.

I know this is going down again today – probably even bigger and better than last year. Happy Holidays to all of my friends at 420 Vancouver 2010 and worldwide!

People are constantly hitting me up with some really whack shit – begging me to post it on my blog. I was worried that this was the case the other day when @TerellSafadi hit me up on Twitter. Fortunately, I was mistaken. This is a solid mixtape from an upcoming Vancouver rapper – take a listen and I think you will agree.

Felix Cartal.

Just over a month ago, Felix Cartal played his album release party in Montreal. I was scheduled to be in attendance and had lined up on on-camera interview with him so that I could share his thoughts with all of my dope viewers. I ended up making a last minute trip to Vancouver to check out the Winter Olympics so I wasn’t able to follow through on that as the timing didn’t work in the end. Fortunately, Felix was cool enough to email me over his answers to some of my questions. Read below to check out our interview.

Felix Cartal.

Over recent years as DJ’s have turned into “rock stars” of their own, everyone seems to want to be one. How did you get your start and how did you separate yourself from the countless others?
I caught a break early on with a few DJ’s and blogs getting interested in some of my earliest work. I think the fact that I didn’t understand dance music as much helped me unintentionally create something more innovative at the time. From there networking and making friends helped me get my foot in the door with the right people.

You come from Canada – but have obviously traveled the world extensively. Are there any major differences between the nightlife scene in Canada and say, the USA (or anywhere else in the world) ?

North America and Europe have a different feel for sure, where as dance music is relatively new in popularity in North America, it’s been prominent in Europe for a long time. Examples like Chemical Brothers climbing the charts don’t necessarily happen here, so I feel the clubbing scene in North America feels a bit more like a trend. Both places have amazing parties though, the nightlife is great everywhere right now.

You just released the album, “Popular Music” – tell me about the creation process behind this and how long did it take?
The songs were written over the course of a year or so. The biggest struggle for me was finding a balance between club tracks and songs with more of a verse-chorus structure. I wanted to make sure there was something on the record for people who don’t go to the club all the time and vice-versa. I probably wrote about 30-40 rough song ideas for the record and I narrowed it down to the 12 that felt right together as a whole.

You are also currently on the “Popular Music” world tour – tell me a bit about life on the road, and what are some of your favorite places to go?
It can be a bit hectic traveling all the time but I’m adjusting to it a little bit more every time I’m out. I’m into trying new foods so traveling permits me to do that a lot, Canada lacks great mexican food so anywhere down south is great for that. Also the Martino sandwich in Belgium is a new favourite of mine. Hmmm I’m not sure how I turned this into a cuisine question…

What can we expect from you in the future? What’s next after this tour?
A release later this year with my friend Keatch from Belgium on a great European label. Then traveling to Europe in May and Australia in June.
