Garde Manger.

August 9, 2010  |  Restaurant Review  |  No Comments

I hosted Calvin Ayre in Montreal two weeks ago, and finally just got sent the photos from the lovely Rebecca Liggero. There was an article published on his website about the few days he stayed, so if you want to read the clean version of what we got up to then click HERE. If you take the time to check that out, you will know that we dined one night at Garde Manger. This was my first time at this restaurant, after hearing many friends rave about it. I am pretty sure I even read a very good review of it in The New York Times. Yes, the food was AMAZING! However, I do want to rant for one second about my experience there. I had a reservation for the group at 9:30pm and we were not seated until after 10:00pm. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of booking in advance? Also, I was not even acknowledged at the entrance until 15 minutes after my arrival. That is unacceptable service in my opinion. With a bill like ours that totaled well over $2000 at the end of the night, I expect the waitress to be giving me a hand job under the table while refilling my half empty glass of wine. Who’s with me?

My longtime friend Sharad Khare recently interviewed (my uncle) Calvin Ayre, the founder of Bodog, while he was briefly in Vancouver. You may remember way back when I posted these photos from a party I hosted at his Yaletown penthouse last summer. Well… on top of an awesome interview, this video also has a mini tour of the place. Take a look and take a listen.
