2010 FIFA World Cup.

First of all you should know that I really have zero interest in soccer. I just can’t get excited about a sport that commonly ends in a 0-0 tie. There is one exception to all of this though: FIFA World Cup. This sporting event is so globally important that it is hard not to get into it, and the caliber of play is so high that the games (for the most part) are exciting. I was actually in Austria during the last World Cup, which was hosted in bordering Germany, and that was absolute craziness. The closest comparison I can think of would be what I experienced in Vancouver during the Winter Olympics. That is probably why I can now actually get excited about this all. Anyways, the 2010 FIFA World Cup is taking place in South Africa and is less than one month away. Check out this AWESOME new Nike advertisement called Write The Future that is running now to promote the big event.

Second, I want to share a story. Like most, I did play the sport in my youth for several years. Although, I was really never any good at it. My soccer “career” ended in 10th grade when I moved from Canada to Costa Rica. I went to the tryouts for my high school team – oh how naive I was. I had overlooked the fact that in Costa Rica soccer is the equivalent to hockey in Canada. It is a way of life – treated with the highest of importance among the locals. This is standard for most Latin American countries. So yeah… the moral of the story is that everyone was a million times better than me, I was embarrassed, and never again attempted to play HAHA!
